Gemma delivers strategic and commercial IP advice to a large variety of organisations ranging from large multinationals and universities to SMEs and start-ups. Gemma has significant senior in-house experience which is invaluable to her IP consulting work in which she guides her clients through all practical, commercial and strategic IP matters.
Gemma specialises in the technical fields of Mechanical, Chemical and Process Engineering. She has a wealth of experience protecting innovations in a broad range of technologies including automotive, aerospace, composite materials, powder metallurgy, industrial and medical gases, medical devices, food processing, battery technology and oil-exploration.
Gemma has extensive experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK, Europe and throughout the world. Gemma also advises on freedom to operate and patent infringement matters as well as the planning, execution and analysis of patent landscape searches.
She joined Keltie in 2018 and became a partner in 2024. Today Gemma continues to support Keltie’s clients as a consultant. Before joining the patent profession Gemma worked as an Engineer in the automotive and aerospace sectors before joining Jaguar Cars (as was) as a CAE specialist. Gemma has spent time off-shore on oil-rigs in both the North Sea and Nigeria.
Gemma joined the patent profession in 2003. After nine years in private practice, Gemma joined the in-house patent team at Linde AG where she headed up the UK IP team and managed a large and varied patent portfolio. Whilst at Linde Gemma gained considerable commercial and strategic experience regularly advising the senior stakeholders on IP strategy, IP licencing and Joint Development agreements.
She obtained a masters degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford in 1999, specialising in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering in her final years. Gemma is passionate about social mobility and works to promote the IP profession to underrepresented groups.
