Keltie’s Shakeel Ahmad, Samantha Walker-Smith and Amelia Ross have been recognised at the Managing IP EMEA Awards 2024 for their work on the Ocado v AutoStore patent litigation.

The team received the European Cross-Border Patent Litigation Team of the Year award at a ceremony held at the London Hilton on Park Lane on 11 April 2024.

The award recognises Keltie’s contribution to the complex, multi-jurisdictional dispute concerning automated storage and retrieval systems. The case involved proceedings before national courts and the European Patent Office, including the opposition and appeal of several European patents.

Keltie worked alongside Abel & Imray LLP and Beck Greener LLP to successfully revoke a number of AutoStore’s European patents that had been asserted against Ocado in the UK litigation. Following proceedings before the US International Trade Commission, the European Patent Office and the UK courts, Ocado and AutoStore reached a £200 million cross-licensing settlement.

Shakeel Ahmad, Partner at Keltie, commented:

“I am delighted that the team has been recognised for its sterling work in opposing and revoking AutoStore patents. This award reflects Keltie’s breadth of experience in EPO opposition and appeal work, as well as our ability to collaborate effectively with other firms to achieve strong results in high-stakes contentious matters.”

The Managing IP Awards recognise significant achievements and developments across the intellectual property profession. The EMEA Awards celebrate work undertaken by firms, companies and practitioners across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Congratulations to Shakeel, Samantha and Amelia on this well-deserved recognition.
