About Mark

Mark is part of Keltie's IT, Telecoms and Electronics team and advises on all parts of the patent process including invention harvesting, patent drafting and prosecution, oppositions and appeals, IP audit, portfolio management and IP due diligence work including freedom to operate opinions. Mark also advises on design issues including the preparation and filing of registered designs. Mark represents SMEs, multinational clients, individuals and universities at the UKIPO, EPO, WIPO and EUIPO.

Mark has experience of a number of technology areas including biometric and behaviour metric authentication and verification systems, payment processing technology including payment terminals, encryption techniques, contactless and RFID card technology and e-commerce. Mark also has interest in mobile telecommunications technology, video processing and 3D model generation and automotive control systems including vehicle modelling systems, engine management systems and fuel injection systems. Mark also has experience of the defence sector and works with clients in the Fintech area and advises clients in protecting financial technology innovations.

 

Mark is responsible for Keltie's social media output and runs Keltie's Twitter account (@KeltieLLP) and is the editor and a main contributor to the IPcopy blog (www.ipcopy.wordpress.com) which has over 500 posts since its creation in 2012.

Mark has a background in physics. Before joining Keltie in 2005, Mark worked as a patent attorney with the Ministry of Defence and QinetiQ where his work covered a diverse range of technical subject matter, such as physics (e.g. fibre optics), electronics and general mechanical technology. Mark's work at the MoD and QinetiQ also included confidentiality agreements, contracts, general copyright and design right issues.

 

In 2003 Mark moved into private practice with a London-based firm of patent and trade mark attorneys where his work related to a range of different technology areas including terahertz-based imaging systems, quantum cryptographic systems and telecommunications.

 

Mark qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2000 and became a Partner in 2015. Mark is a European Design Attorney.
