What we do

Keltie is a firm of UK and European patent and trade mark attorneys. We act directly before:

  • the UK Intellectual Property Office for UK patent, trade mark and design matters
  • the European Patent Office for patent matters under the European Patent Convention
  • the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market for Community Trade Mark and Community Design matters that cover the entire European Union
  • the World Intellectual Property Organisation for international patent and trade mark matters under the Patent Cooperation Treaty and the Madrid Protocol

Through our foreign associates, we offer corresponding services in every territory of the world.

We group ourselves according to our main disciplines - patents; trade marks and domain names; designs and copyright and IP consulting - but we encourage overlap. We are not constrained by departments: lateral thinking works best if we don't work in boxes.

Far more than a mere filing practice, we offer services extending across the full spectrum of intellectual property law:

  • contentious issues - opposition, revocation, invalidity and threats proceedings; dispute resolution; third-party observations; advice on infringement and validity; enforcement; defence; entitlement disputes; negotiation; co-existence agreements and other settlements
  • transactional matters - due diligence enquiries; assignments; licensing; stock market reports; investor advice
  • renewal services
  • intelligence - searching; watching; investigation; freedom-to-operate opinions
  • support - translations; illustrations; legal documentation
  • managing IP, internally and externally
  • assessing IP portfolios
  • developing systems and staff within IP departments
