Azhar's trade mark practice ranges from the filing and prosecution of UK, European Union and International trade mark and design applications to clearance searches, advising on the law of infringement and passing off, due diligence projects and anti-counterfeiting strategies. Azhar also has experience in trade mark law and practice outside of the UK. He advises clients on worldwide filing and branding strategies and manages a number of worldwide trade mark portfolios.

Azhar also represents clients in contentious matters before the UK Intellectual Property Office and European Union Intellectual Property Office in opposition proceedings, revocation and invalidity actions and has appeared as an advocate before the UK Intellectual Property Office in trade mark hearings.

In addition to trade marks, Azhar also advises on copyright and design matters and has handled a number of domain name disputes before Nominet and WIPO. Azhar also has experience in negotiating settlement, co-existence and assignment agreements and has represented clients in mediations. He has particular experience in the preparation of customs applications for use by the UK Border Agency in identifying potential counterfeit goods.

Azhar is also a regular commentator in the CITMA Review and CIPA Journal and lectures for the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA), Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) and the Intellectual Property Administrators Group (IPAG). Azhar has also spoken at a number of seminars and conferences in relation to trade marks, designs, copyright and domain names.

Azhar also sits on the INTA Trade Mark Administrators Committee and is Co-Chair of the INTA Special Programs Committee. 

Azhar graduated from the University of Derby in 2008 with an Honours degree in Law. He received first-class results in the Intellectual Property element of his degree, including the study of copyright, trade mark and patent law. Before joining Keltie, Azhar completed a work placement at a firm of trade mark attorneys in York. He joined Keltie in 2009 and was made a Partner in 2019. 

Azhar qualified in 2013, becoming a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney, European Trade Mark Attorney and Member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys.

Azhar was awarded the John Parker Memorial Award in 2010 for achieving the highest overall mark in the UK Trade Mark Practice paper and was the last recipient of the award.

The World Trade Mark Review 2019 ranks Keltie in Tier 1 (highly recommended) and states that Azhar is "a director in the group who makes his debut appearance in the WTR1000 this year. “Azhar is highly articulate and very passionate about his work. He gives up to date and practical advice on the most challenging matters – you can throw any question at him and he’ll handle it with humour and adroitness.”
