Kaya graduated in 2003. For his Computer Systems Engineering degree, Kaya studied a number of subjects including computer graphics, neural networks, artificial intelligence, embedded systems and semiconductors. As part of his final year project, he was part of a team responsible for designing and building a formula one style racing car, and so has a practical knowledge of automotive systems, in particular on-car data networks.
Kaya has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in diverse technology areas such as lighting apparatus; GPS systems; textile machinery; pumps; printers; bearings; animatronic toys; search engines; and control systems.

Kaya joined Keltie in 2008, having previously spent over four years with another firm of patent and trade mark attorneys. He has a certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London, and qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2008.
