Registered Trade Mark Attorney
European Trade Mark Attorney

BEng Civil Engineering, University of Paisley

Alistair specialises in trade mark and design law and, with Rosemary Cardas, heads up Keltie's trade mark practice.

In addition to advising on general trade mark clearance, prosecution and registration matters, Alistair has considerable experience in dealing with enforcement issues and the management of international trade mark portfolios.

He routinely prepares UK and overseas searching and filing strategies for clients and has handled many 'due diligence' searches in support of corporate mergers and acquisitions.

Much of Alistair's work involves advising clients on the law of infringement and passing off, representing clients in settlement negotiations and compiling and preparing evidence of use and trade evidence in support of trade mark applications or in contentious matters such as opposition, invalidity or revocation proceedings.

In terms of advocacy work, Alistair regularly attends hearings before the UK Intellectual Property Office.

Alistair has particular expertise in representing clients with trade mark and design interests in the fields of gaming and gambling, entertainment, computer software and systems, clothing, healthcare and personal care products, finance, insurance and regulatory affairs.

Whilst Alistair deals almost exclusively with trade marks and designs, he also has experience in copyright and domain name matters.

Alistair is described by the 2008 Legal 500 as "exceptional".

The 2008 edition of Chambers and Partners says he is "responsive, robust and commercial in his approach, he is able to develop appropriate strategies, and has a good track record".
