Jo's primary areas of expertise include vehicle fuel injection systems, engine control systems and vehicle accessories. She also has experience in aerospace fuel and actuation systems and telecommunications. Additionally Jo has represented US corporations working in the field of software and computer-related inventions.
Before moving into private practice in 1998, Jo worked for DERA (now QinetiQ), where she gained experience in a wide range of physics technology areas, in particular relating to semiconductor devices, telecommunications, liquid crystal display devices, metal detection and infra-red camera technology. As part of her training at DERA she also studied for a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London, and completed the CEIPI course on European Patent Law.

Jo joined Keltie in 2002 and became a partner in 2006. Before joining us she spent four years with a Midlands firm of patent and trade mark attorneys, having previously worked for DERA (now QinetiQ). She qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 1999.
Jo graduated from Birmingham University in 1991 as a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours. She stayed at Birmingham University to complete a PhD in nuclear structure physics, where she worked as part of an international collaboration investigating nuclear break-up reactions, and in particular the study of alpha cluster states in 12C and 24Mg. Jo was awarded her PhD in 1994.
