Dudley has worked with clients from private individuals to large corporations, and is experienced in providing advice on all patent matters, including validity and infringement. He has appeared on numerous occasions before Examining Divisions, Opposition Divisions and Technical Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office. He has handled revocation proceedings before the UK Intellectual Property Office and has been involved in litigation before the Patents Court and the Court of Appeal.

Dudley has experience in handling UK, European, international and foreign patent applications covering a wide range of mechanical, electrical and electronic subject matter. His patent work over the years has ranged from the simple - such as sleeping bags, sportswear, balloons, board games and household cleaning devices - to the complex, including continuously-variable transmission gearboxes, matrix switching arrangements, semiconductor fabrication, thermodynamics, coin and banknote validation, inkjet printers, cryptography, digital signal processing, motor-generators and magnetic resonance systems.

Career history

Dudley joined Keltie in 2006, having previously spent eighteen years with two other London firms of patent and trade mark attorneys. He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 1992.

After leaving university, Dudley was employed for over six years as an Examiner at the UK Patent Office (now the UK Intellectual Property Office). His duties involved searching and examining patent applications covering electrical and electronic subject-matter, including measuring and testing using radiation; semiconductor circuits; lasers; recording and playback; traffic-control systems and musical instruments. While at the Patent Office, he was actively involved in setting up the Search and Advisory Service.
