David deals with all forms of intellectual property. His patent practice extends over a wide range of technologies, including mechanical, life sciences, medical and electrical. He has particular experience in building materials, roof tiles and building blocks, printing, functional fabrics, road repair apparatus and materials, electrolytic cells, solar energy, automotive engineering, agricultural and horticultural machines, medical and surgical apparatus and instruments, prosthetics, implants, packaging and waste disposal.
David's trade mark practice includes the financial, building, sports, telecommunications and charity sectors. He is responsible for managing several large trade mark portfolios and advising on all aspects of trade mark practice throughout the world. David also has an extensive knowledge of designs.
In addition, David has been involved in litigation with patent cases in the High Court, Patents County Court, Court of Appeal and UK Intellectual Property Office and has represented clients before the European Patent Office Opposition Divisions and Technical Boards of Appeal. He has also been involved in numerous trade mark oppositions before the UK Intellectual Property Office and Community Trade Mark Office (OHIM) as well as appeals to the UK appointed person, the High Court and OHIM.
David is described by the 2008 Legal 500 as "inspirational".

David founded David Keltie Associates (now Keltie) in 1988 with Rosemary Cardas. David had long experience in the patent and trade mark professions, with eight years as a partner in another London firm, before founding David Keltie Associates.
Qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1976, David became a European Patent Attorney in 1978 when the European Patent Office opened. He was elected a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys in 1980. He became a European Trade Mark Attorney when the Community Trade Mark system began in 1996.
Before entering the profession, David qualified as a Physiotherapist in his native New Zealand and practised physiotherapy privately and in various London hospitals.
David is a member of AIPPI, FICPI, PTMG, INTA and ECTA.
