A law firm acting for a huge multinational approached us because its client had decided to rebrand. We won the trade mark clearance work. It was a job that we absolutely could not risk getting wrong.
Upon assembling a bespoke team in our Trade Mark Group, we placed that team at the heart of a colossal searching effort involving clearance of 74 prospective marks in 41 countries. We liaised with our foreign associates to search, filter, advise and find a way forward.
Over an intense period, our team worked through frequently-changing lists of marks and countries, dismissing some marks on initial assessment and putting others through more detailed investigation.
Eventually one mark was chosen on the basis of our advice, and the client renamed itself accordingly.
If a bigger trade mark search was done by anyone else in the world that year, we'd like to hear about it.
